Fire, Fire!

We got invited to visit a local fire station today for a playgroup. Fireman Nate gave us all a tour of the insides and outsides of the station. It was pretty cool. Because we are more rural the fire stations are also the hubs for the ambulances. Most if not all of the firemen in these less populated areas must also be certified to be an EMT.

The kids got to go inside the ambulance. I didn't tell Dan that we were visiting the fire station today (we only found out the morning of), so I sent him a similar picture on his cell phone. He said he panicked for a minute. Little pranks are fun. :)

Then Fireman Nate showed the kids a firetruck and all the tools that are stored on it and even showed them the outfits that protect the firemen. We even got to see the lights on both the firetruck and ambulance. I wish we could have let the kids sit in the cab of the firetruck too, but it had just returned from a trip to the grocery store, so it was a bit messy.

Then the boys got a Junior Firefighter "Badge". It was a very fun trip. Thanks for inviting us Emily and Abby!
*Interesting fact: There is a difference between a fire engine and a fire truck. Though they look similar, a fire truck is equipped with a retracting ladder on top of the truck, whereas a fire engine only has the stow-away ladders. I always used to interchange the names, now I know better.
