Happy 4th!

We had a fun 4th of July.
The boys started the day off with running through Elliott's new sprinklers that he got for his birthday. It's 12 feet of wiggly water heads. It was probably not quite 80 degrees outside and our well water gets quite cold, so it didn't last too long. Dan ended up running through with the boys because they wouldn't do it themselves because it was too cold.
Later, the boys played with another of Elliott's gifts. It's called Elefun. And indeed it is. The boys had so much fun trying to catch the butterflies that the elephant spews from its trunk. I think Dono was able to catch some but it'll take some time until Elliott learns how to use the net to actually catch something.

Because it doesn't get dark here until around 10 pm, we decided to do our own fireworks. They are legal in Michigan, so don't worry, we didn't do anything illegal. They weren't big things anyway. Here's the kids throwing those little poppers.

Then we let the kids hold sparklers - under supervision of course. Elliott had a blast, but that didn't surprise us, he is very adventurous.

Then Dono had a turn. His hand is on his face because he was whining the whole time. He was scared and we had to keep reassuring him that we wouldn't let it hurt him. This reaction too was not a surprise. It's amazing how totally different brothers can be.

Nama trying to show Donovan how fun sparklers could be.

We are grateful for our independence and for all those who fight for our freedom. Dan and I both come from families where we have fathers who have been in the military and fought in Vietnam and other members who have served elsewhere even in Iraq. We are glad that we live in a country where we are important and can worship and live the way we choose. Happy Independence Day!
